Who We Are

Joseph Goodman, CFP®, CPA
Company President Joseph L. Goodman founded Financial Planning Matters to offer an independent perspective for individuals and small businesses planning for the financial challenges of today's economic environment.

Joe's commitment to excellence and financial management services, as well as his interest in the needs of seniors and other individuals facing life transitions, is reflected in his credentials and education. In addition to being a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, his credentials include state approved Registered Investment Advisor, membership in the Financial Planning Association (FPA), and the American Institution of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Joe is also a member of the Garret Planning Network, whose philosophies uphold the Fee-Only, no conflict of interest tenets critical to independent advising. He is a former Board and Audit Committee member for Under One Roof, a non-profit organization providing congregate housing for low income seniors, and he has obtained a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) certification. Joe graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University with his undergraduate degree in Economics, and attended the American Graduate School of International Management to earn his MBA/MIM with distinction in Finance.

Joe's passion for financial literacy and empowerment developed over 34 years of business and public accounting experience. His work history includes five years as a financial analyst, internal auditor and cost accounting manager with the Fortune 100 health care leader, Johnson and Johnson, and twenty-nine years with Grant Thornton, a global public accounting and business advisory services firm, where he was responsible for Grant Thornton's Business Advisory Service practice in the Northeast Region from 2002-2008 and held various local, regional and national leadership positions with the firm in New York, Chicago and Wisconsin. Throughout his career in public accounting, Joe focused on helping mid-sized and family owned companies.

At FPM, Joe works with clients and their families to develop realistic financial goals and practical plans for achieving these objectives. He is particularly focused on helping seniors and others facing major life transitions understand the financial implications of alternative choices they have, and decisions they must make. Joe is dedicated to providing independent, fee-only, financial advice to those who need it most.
